Happy New Year!!! I really started this blog back in July of 2009 but never got around to doing anything else to it. I am not sure why I want to give it another try but here goes nothing. Not sure who will ever read it....friends, family, acquaintances...who knows?
How did I start 2011? Honestly I cried. I ran upon an update on Facebook of a couple that Brad and I met at a conference in Kansas City last summer. The conference, with as little detail as possible, was for families "applying" for jobs to go and share the good news in different parts of the world. Since Brad and I have been in this process since November 2009 sometimes impatience sets in because we are certain of our calling and we have not been assigned a job yet. However, the family whose blog I was reading found out recently that they have been assigned and are going soon to share Jesus with those who have never heard. I cried. For two reasons I cried though.
- I was happy for this family. I read her story and was amazed at the way that God orchestrated events and circumstances to allow this family to go and work in His field.
- I was jealous. Yes. I had to immediately ask for forgiveness and repent. I cannot be jealous of this family. God has a perfect plan for my family and where He wants to lead us and it will happen in His perfect timing.
So, what did my Lord remind me of AGAIN this New Year's morning of 2011? That He has a perfect plan for me and my family. He also reminded me of something I have struggled with since coming back from the Uganda trip I went on in August 2010. I get so excited thinking about taking the gospel to the unreached people groups of the world, but do I get excited about telling people where I am currently? Not all the time. This is a problem. If I want to share Christ with people half way around the world and do not do it here in Memphis, that is a problem. I should LOVE and DESIRE to tell the people closest to me about the love of Christ as I do with people on another continent. Do I share Christ with others? You bet. As much as I should? Nope. Sounds like something honorable to work on during 2011.
